Fort Royal Hotel
Rathmullan, Co. Donegal

Classification: Irish Tourist Board 3 Star
Proprietors: Tim and Tina Fletcher
The town of Rathmullan is redolent of an earlier
history - when chieftains and clansmen sailed for Spain and France
in the ‘Flight of the Earls’. It is here the Montgomery family
showed inspired judgement when they laid the foundations of Fort
Royal Hotel in 1820. A beautiful situation by the shoreline of Lough
Swilly, Co. Donegal’s great sea lake, gives Fort Royal natural
advantages - not only fine views and invigorating air but
magnificent sandy beaches for swimming and sporting. Today, Fort
Royal is an impressive three-star hotel, now in the careful hands of
Tim and Tina Fletcher whose eye for location and flair for
hospitality must exceed even that of the founding family. Enjoy the
warmth of their greeting, the comfort of their rooms, the quality of
their food and the variety of their wine list. Seven hectares of
grounds, with many beech trees that have stood for centuries also
include a hard tennis court, squash court and 9-hole golf course
(Par 3). Riding and fishing are also available nearby. One RAC
dining award.
